The movies were immediately found through the “Files” tab! They had difficulty playing through the “Files” tab, so I wen t back to the “Video” tab and “Ta-Daa!” all of my movies were there! ALL 289 MOVIES! And they all played! (I checked about 20 various movies and file types. Then I accessed the hard drive through the “Files” tab on the dashboard., instead of going through the “Video” tab - which showed nothing at the time. I then plug the SMP in and it powered on, and within 30 seconds or so it was on the home page. I connected the Seagate 3TB HD back to the SMP while it was unplugged.

I also placed 1 movie file in the folder the WD TV Live SMP created. All remaining movies (a total of 289 movies - mp4, avi, mkv, mpg) were in 1 folder, labeled “Movies”. Maybe it was stupid, but my thinking was, I wanted to give the SMP every possible avenue to recognize media files.
Then - for no paricular reason - I moved 1 movie file to the root (top level) of the HD. I only left what was factory installed. Then I noticed the WD TV Live SMP had created a folder on the HD. Here is someone who tried something else: I connected my 3TB HD to my laptop (running Windows 7) and deleted all “Seagate Backed Up Files” from the hard drive. If you split into 2 partitions, like 1.5+1.5Tb Only 1 of the 4 worked with an up to date linux build, on the same PC hardware where they "all" worked with Windows. Here are some suggestions that I read online - would any of these work? One user believing his drive was the problem in the end tested all 4 of his enclosures using Desktop Linux to see what was going on. The reason for finding a drive others say works, and doesn't for you, could be the Linux incompatible Sata to USB bridge chip in your enclosure. Those posting information about desktop drives hosted in an a third party enclosure, be it enclosed or slot, should say what that is. Mede8er1 has endeavoured to post the Sata to USB bridge chip in the external enclosures tested. With this drive you get connectivity with USB 3.0 devices as well as backward compatibility with USB 2.0 devices.

WD MY BOOK 3TB COMPATIBILITY DRIVER
The above has been reported to Realtek and we hope with the help of Paragon that they will be able to make a new USB driver that is compatible with these new drives. From our internal tests on one particular model it seems that you cannot bypass the format requirements and you are stuck with the above mentioned scheme. It seems like a lot of conversion and emulation is happening in the Controller IC with a result of incompatibility with many devices. These partitions are merged into one Partition by the SATA to USB Bridge Controller IC on the casing pcb. These drives are designed to be compatible with Win XP and have two internal partitions ie 2048GB and 746.52GB (in the case of 3TB). It has come to our attention that the Hard Drive Manufacturers have been selling external USB 3TB /4TB with Advanced Format 512e emulation. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
